Janine Dawson - Illustrator

Janine Dawson started out drawing from a very young  age. Things weren’t always crash hot at home so she would escape into her imagination and draw things. Sometimes it was a better place to be. When she left school she worked in animation for many years both in Australia and overseas, but now she says she’s happiest drawing pictures for children’s books. She wishes she had a Wonderpen.
When Ian was 'looking out the window', chances are I was the kid who'd already been sent out of the class for daydreaming! My teachers used to tell me to stop daydreaming all the time. Luckily, I mustn't have been listening, because I still daydream and draw all the time, only now they call that, 'being an illustrator'.

"I was always daydreaming when I was a boy, and would often be told to 'stop looking out the window' by my teachers. I looooove daydreaming, like Philomena, and I think that Prime Ministers and Presidents shoud daydream more often.
Philomena Wonderpen came to me as an idea one day. The idea set up a campsite in my brain and started cooking up loads of other juicy ideas to go with it. If there's one thing I love more than daydreams, it's the smell of juicy ideas in my head. So, I just HAD to write Philomena's story."
